ATTENTION EVERYONE!!!!!

I started this blog almost three years ago and after about five posts I gave up. This time I have a co-writer, The Muscles From Brussels, and the plan is to have posts up weekly covering the spectrum of metal and what we are listening to. The first full post should come after Thanksgiving break but for now, here is some Between the Buried and Me.

Stay tuned for more after Thanksgiving

∫-∞ⁿ=... Awesome

O.K. so I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you have no clue what the title means? Well neither do I but I think its time for me to introduce y'all to a little known genre I like to call Math Metal. Now you may wonder, what constitutes a song being Math Metal? Well to put it this way, if you think you know how a rhythm goes your probably not right, and you would probably need a PH.d to decipher some of the time signatures used in these songs. I think the best way for you to understand it is to hear it so here is Farewell Mona Lisa by The Dillinger Escape Plan.
I think these guys truly take schizophrenia to a whole new meaning. This song off their new album Option paralysis is just amazing and it's not just a total screech-fest either. Now here is Horse Hunter off of their 2007 album Ire Works
I really just have kinda run out of words to describe this stuff so here is Sunshine the Werewolf
And now for something completely different, here is some Periphery with Racecars Both with vocals
And Instrumental
Now if you just had to change pants I completely understand because this song is just THAT EPIC. Now here is a little fun fact about Periphery and their guitarist Misha Mansoor which you may already know. He was the producer for Animals As Leaders self titled album and he also recorded a 3 song demo for Born of Osiris.

Now that's going to be all for this post, but if you want more I highly encourage you to go out and get the albums for your self.

They Got Off On A Technicality pt. 2

Alright guys here is the continuation of my Technical Metal segment and I'm gonna start it off with a BANG!!

This I After the Burial with their song Ometh off of their first album Rareform
If anything the INSANE solo work for the last minute of the song is enough to warrant leading off this post but the shear technicality of the pick work is AMAZING!! As I said in my previous post, you're going to see a lot of Summerian Records and this is just another band on their amazing lineup.

Next up is going to be some of The Black Dahlia Murder with What A Horrible Night To Have A Curse.
The thing that I believe justifies it's position here is the awesome drum work by Shannon Lucas. The guy is amazing and you can get a clearer look of it on the video for Necropolis.
These guys are just strait up epic and really don't have a single bad song on either Deflorate or Nocturnal, definitely worth the money.

Today I'm going to leave you guys with Starved and Bow Down, both by Born Of Osiris, another one of the giants on Summerian. This stuff is great and I highly recommend you get both their current albums and their new one when it comes out. Here is Bow Down.
And here is Starved.

I hope you enjoyed this selection and I love hearing from YOU the reader so leave your comments and suggestions on what you like or don't like. Next Segment: Math Metal

They Got Off On A Technicality pt. 1

Alright so I said at the end of my last post that I would be covering Technical Metal and Math Metal in this post. Here's the thing, there's way too much technical metal out there for me to cover it in one post, so I've decided that I'm going to split it into three posts, two about Technical Metal and one about Math Metal.

To kick off the Technical Metal I'll start it off with Veil Of Maya and their song Dark Passenger.

Veil of Maya is a pretty young band, [ID] being only their second album with Summerian Records, a powerhouse of Technical Metal bands.

The next song I'm going to feature is Unrest by Parkway Drive.
Parkway Drive, hailing out of Australia, is a band that I only just recently got really into, but they soon jumped onto my radar. I haven't really heard much or their older stuff but I highly recommend both Deep Blue and Horizons as future purchases for anyone looking for music.

Now to jump back to America with Summerian Record's flagship band The Faceless and their track The Ghost Of A Stranger.
When I first heard this song I thought for a second that Cliff Burton had come back from the dead to play Bass for these guys. The runs are amazing, most of the time mirroring the Guitars, And if that wasn't enough at 2:55 into the song he just goes crazy with it, and that's not a one time thing or even something specific to their first album as he comes back on the second one and does it again and then some. Here's The Ancient Covenant off of their most recent album Planetary Duality.
Now if that intro didn't catch your interest than I don't know what would. The Faceless have also announced that they will be releasing a new album sometime in the next few months so be on the lookout for that to hit the shelves soon.

Anyways, that's going to have to be all for pt.1 of They Get Off On a Technicality, stay tuned for pt.2 and make sure you leave feedback and subscribe so you don't miss whats to come.

Also as a side note in the next few weeks I'd like to do a segment on what YOU the reader like to listen to, regardless of genre (although metal/rock are preferred) so be sure to leave those in the comments section as well.

Who Needs A Singer Anyways

So for this post I've decided to do an instrumental metal sampler for those who thought all metal has is growling "cookie monster" vocals or the demonic shrieks common to Death Metal or Black Metal or a mass of unintelligible riffs that you can't really make out. If a posh celebrity living on Long Island were to listen to metal, Instrumental Metal would be their choice.

To start off the eargasm that you are about to experience I give you Animals As Leaders, a "band" I only just recently discovered and I haven't been able to get off of my headphones. Animals As Leaders was the result of an offer from Prosthetic Records to Tosin Abasi to get a solo project. At first Tosin was reluctant but after his old band Reflux disbanded he took up the offer, recording his first album with Misha Mansoor of Periphery. Tosin recorded not only lead guitar on his monster 8 string guitar, but also rhythm and bass while Mansoor added synthesized drums and other effects to complete the mix. The band now has a rhythm guitarist in Javier Reyes (also using an 8 string) and a real drummer in Navene Koperweis. Other things to note are that Navene Koperweis is formerly of Animosity fame and Tosin Abasi toured with Born of Osiris in 2009.
This is their song CAFO from their self titled album Animals As Leaders.
And this is the newest single, Wave of Babies.

Now I'm going to completely turn the corner and close out today's post with To Live Is To Die, my personal favorite of Metallica's 3 instrumental tracks to date.

That's all for today. Next to come: Technical Metal and Math Metal
Make sure you subscribe so you can get all the latest in the best of the world of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal

A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step...

So I figured I would start this off by going back to my heavy roots and start off with some of the Big 4.
First off for some Metallica off of their first album Kill 'em All here's Motorbreath:
By far one of the best little known songs by Metallica, they used it as a closer for concerts 'till recently.

Next off I'll give you guys a little taste of by far one of the most controversial metal bands in history, after which i drew some inspiration in naming this blog, Slayer. This is the song War Ensemble off their album Seasons In The Abyss:
Now some people may chastise me for putting War Ensemble up here instead of Raining Blood or Angel of Death but I really don't care. Both of those are amazing songs, both on the CD and live, but when I saw them this past Fall I thought they did much better on War Ensemble.

That's all for now folks, more to come later this week with perhaps some more modern music.
Be sure to leave comments on what you guys think and make sure you subscribe to see what's to come
